Demitra (Demi) Gilbertson has over 30 years experience repairing and restoring antique, vintage, and modern dolls. She was just 9 years old, when a beloved aunt taught her to sew for her Ideal Tammy doll. She turned that love and talent into a degree in theatrical costuming from the University of Wisconsin-Superior where she studied under Broadway's award-winning designer, Ursula Belden.
After several years of summer stock and community theatre, Demi married and joined her spouse in Norway. It was there, at a village fair, she found two ratty bisque dolls. She completely restored and dressed them (see pictures at top of page). Further education in doll repair and years of continued trial and error perfected what began as just a hobby.
A life-long career in academia and health care for the elderly led to Demi receiving a master's degree in psychology in 2007. She retired from the public sector in 2008 and now works in her doll hospital full-time. Demi and her husband, Mark, are active grand-parents as well as community volunteers. They live in St. Louis Park with a spoiled cat named Tucker.
